While enjoying the abundant recreation opportunities and beauty of West Virginia in the early '80s, friends, Bill Waite, an organic gardener from California, and Alice Fleischman, a Virginia native working as a raft and ski touring guide, found themselves woefully underemployed in the off-season. This inconvenient fact jump started their survival instincts, leading them to pool their as yet untapped art and mechanical talents and launch a small t-shirt printing shop in the basement of a generous neighbor's home.

The new business was given a name, and local jobs quickly led to a broader market as they began working with West Virginia's many rafting companies and ski resorts. Having long ago grown out of the neighbor's basement, but still located in the tiny, mountaintop town of Davis, East-West Printing has now been supplying custom t-shirts and embroidered goods to the adventure travel and sporting world for over 25 years.
